How do I view scans from the mobile app?

When would I use this?

  • You spot an issue on site and want to check back to see when it might have occurred
  • You're in an on-site conversation or meeting and need to quickly show a team member what a location looked like at a specific point in time
  • You don't have your laptop available, or just want a quick way to view a scan

Overview

The Oculo mobile app includes a 360 scan viewer alongside the scan capture functionality. The mobile scan viewer brings the full scan browsing experience to your phone, so you can check historical scans from anywhere without your computer.

The viewer works similarly to the 360 viewer on the web platform - you can swipe to look around a scene, navigate to adjacent scenes, use the mini map to move around the floor plan, and switch between scan dates without leaving the viewer.

Scan viewer is available from v2.6.1 onwards of the app. If you have an earlier version, please update it now from your app store.

How to use it

Opening the scan viewer

  1. Open the Oculo mobile app and select your site with the site selector dropdown at the top of the screen, then tap Continue. The site name is always shown at the top so you can see which site you're viewing.
  2. Open the Oculo mobile app. Navigate to the Scans module from the bottom menu, then tap the View tab at the top. This opens the scan list for your current site, showing all available scans listed by date. Where scan descriptions are available, you can see these below the scan dates too.
  3. Tap a scan date from the list to open the 360 scan viewer.

Navigating in the 360 Scan Viewer

Once a scan loads, you can explore it in the same way as the web app:

  • Look around a scene - swipe the 360 image in any direction
  • Move to an adjacent scene - tap a floor circle projection on the 360 image to navigate to that scene
  • Zoom in or out on the 360 image - pinch to zoom

Using the mini map

By default, the mini map is minimised to give you the most screen space for the 360 image.

  • Tap the map icon in the bottom left to open the mini map
  • Drag the top edge of the mini map panel to resize it
  • Use the floor dropdown to switch between levels and see all scenes plotted on that floor's plan
  • Tap any scene circle on the mini map to navigate directly to that scene
  • The view cone shows which direction you are currently looking
  • Zoom the mini map using the + / - buttons in the bottom right corner, or pinch to zoom on the mini map itself

Switching scan dates from within the viewer

You can change the scan date without leaving the 360 viewer:

  1. Tap the current scan date shown at the top of the screen
  2. A date list appears showing all available scan dates for the site
  3. Tap a date to jump to the same scene location on that scan date

Tip: When you switch scan dates from within the viewer, Oculo keeps you in the same scene location. This makes it easy to compare how a specific area has changed over time.

Returning to the scan list

Tap the back arrow in the top left of the viewer to return to the scan list. From there you can select a different scan date, a different site, or switch back to the Capture tab when you want to record a new scan.

Things to bear in mind

  • The mobile viewer is not currently as feature rich as the web platform - for more advanced features like side by side comparison and BIM model use the web platform for now
