Just started with Oculo? No worries. With this guide, we'll get you ready for scanning in no time.
This article is essential reading for those who have just started scanning with Oculo. Camera preparation, along with scanning best practices, can have an impact on the quality of the scan outputs - and so we should be sure to follow the guidelines below to ensure we get the most out of each scan.
Key elements covered:
- Camera mounting
- Camera settings
Camera mounting
- To mount your X2 camera, you will need the 3 pieces of equipment below.
- The mount should be positioned directly in the top centre of your helmet where there is minimal curvature. If you are sticking a new mount, ensure the hat is clean and dry, then remove the red film and press the mount firmly onto the hat (ideally 24hrs+ before mounting the camera). Note that the mounts come in 2 types - curved and flat. Please ensure that you select the curved mount for good adhesion with the hardhat.
- The camera is attached to the mount using the 'buckle clip' and 'tripod adaptor'. The tripod adaptor screws into the bottom of the camera (the round plate can be adjusted to position the camera in the right orientation), the tripod adaptor then is attached to the buckle clip via the screw connector.
- Finally the buckle clip slides into the mount and locks in.
- Position the camera so that the lenses (and screen) face to the sides, and the camera sits at around 45 degrees - as shown below.
Camera settings
- Press and hold the black 'power' button on top of your camera for 2 seconds and wait for a beep - you will see the screen activate.
- Check the battery level icon at the top right corner of the screen - ensure that it is fully charged before going onsite to provide maximum scan duration.
- Ensure that there is adequate space on the SD card - the symbol in the top left corner displays the recording time available on the card (in the current capture mode).
- Confirm that the camera is set to the correct mode for your scan - this is normally Timelapse Video - indicated by a Clock Icon in the bottom left corner and 5.7K/30 in the bottom right. Do not adjust these settings unless discussed with Oculo Support, it is critical for a successful scan. *Note that, when using the Oculo app to start your scan, you shouldn't worry about this step as it enforces the correct settings on the camera
- Ensure the camera lenses are clean and free of damage. Use the wiping cloth provided with the camera.
Good stuff, you are ready to begin your scan!
