Does your PC, Laptop, Mac or other device fail to detect or open your camera USB folder when connected by USB, or restrict its files? These tips could help.
1. Turn on the camera
Once you have plugged in the camera with the USB-C cable, you also need to turn it on for the computer to recognise it.
2. Check the disk mode configuration on the camera
Switch on your camera, and at the main menu, swipe down to go to the settings. Swipe right once, and tap the Gear icon to open the camera settings.
In the settings, select General, then USB Mode. Set this to Desktop Mode or U-disk mode (depending on the camera you are using).
3. Sorry... but unplug and replug the USB-C cable, or try a different cable
This 'traditional IT fix' does often work, give it a go. You should hear a confirmation beep from the computer that it recognises a new drive. Also try a different USB socket from your device.
4. Check that you aren't using a 'charge only' USB port
If your USB port has a lightning symbol next to it, this could indicate that it is for charging only and may nor function to connect devices to the computer.
5. Try removing the battery module
It might be that the power requirements of the battery are causing the issue. Disconnect the battery, then plug in the camera and turn it on. It should still function correctly - turning on and being detected as a USB drive.
6. Try it on another computer
This will at least help in troubleshooting if it is the computer, or the camera/cable that is causing the issue.
7. Contact your IT team
To determine whether there are blocks on USB storage devices that can be lifted, or USB drivers that can be updated.
8. Try an external SD Card reader
If the USB connection fails, you can also remove the SD Card from the camera and use an SD Card reader to connect directly to your device.
